Snickerdoodle

Its been a busy day! I went to get a haircut, and then wandered around. I found a fancy yarn shop, and bought some yarn, as I’m learning to knit. And, next to it, was a tiny hole in the wall tea shop. I didn’t know it was there! That’s probably a bad discovery.
I went and tossed old teas, things I did not like, and things I was, honestly, never going to drink again, and its amazingly freeing! I feel so much more relaxed about my cupboard now, and excited to drink things and try new teas! I’ll remember this, for the next time my cupboard feels overwhelming.
So, this tea. A sample from my latest David’s order, and I was pleased to have it. Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookie.
This smells and tastes very much like cinnamon, and a touch of nuttiness, but its feeling heavy and lacking in the bright sugar note that I associate with a proper snickerdoodle. But it is not unpleasant, and I’m glad to have tried it.

Made the last of this in travel mugs this morning. I wanted to have a least one more cup of this without Sweet Apple Cider mixed in to see if I like it enough to purchase more.

The first few sips were very spicy and thick, reminding me a lot of ginger snap cookies. Yum! As I continued drinking, however, this got very appley (reminding me a lot of Sweet Apple Cider without the tart) and thin. I can’t tell if it was the cooler temperature of the tea or me not washing the tops of my Contigos well enough. In either case, I think I’ll be all right not getting more of this one. It was tasty, but I don’t have to have it.

This tea was fine, but not super special. I enjoy a good cinnamon brew, and certainly wouldn’t turn a cup of this down, but have others I prefer. I didn’t have as many issues with the added sweetener as other Steepsters (though I am getting tired of DT’s added sugar overload in new teas). It definitely has a cookie taste to it – I like it as a soy latte.

After the disappointment that was David’s Tea Cream of Earl Grey (organic) I was quite hesitant to taste this… But I am so glad I did and that I didn’t pass it along in fear! I enjoy this almost any way! But I don’t think I’ll be trying it iced. cx But with Almond milk it gives it a nuttier vibe almost like a sweet bun, regular low-fat milk just brings out the sweetness enough for it to taste like you’re drinking warm liquid snickerdoodles, and alone it is just fantastic especially when you over steep it because the brittle pieces just enhance the cookie flavor so much! Love love love! Going to get all I can before it is gone for good! ;P

Tried this as a sample in store today, and I wasn’t thrilled. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. I would totally drink a cup of it if it was around, it certainly is nice, but I didn’t find it too memorable, and now I can’t quite recall the flavour. Probably because I tried the Cranberry Pear afterwards and that punched me in the face with YES! I might try this again, because I’d like to have something on hand without caffeine for afternoons, but I’m not in a rush…

Although I normally drink my tea plain, this tea I prefer with a little milk. It just allows the cinnamony baked goodness to come through properly! And as a latté? AMAZING! Literally just like the cookie!

When I read about this one on the David’s site, it sounded so delicious. On a budget, I only ordered two teas, so this one got added to my “maybe purchase later” list. I was quite excited that a sample was included with my order, since I did really want to try it.
I’m very glad I tried it and didn’t buy it.
This tea is just not my thing. The cinnamon tastes like red hots, there’s a predominant apple flavour going on that I don’t associate with snickerdoodles, and the sweetener is something I’m not looking for in my loose tea (I’ll add my own sweetener if I want it).
The aftertaste is very artificial sweetener and red hot candy….
It sounded fantastic, but just didn’t work in my cup. Even dry, the cinnamon was way too strong and artificial.
Bummer.

I have been of late very disappointed in David’s Tea. They have been using more and more sweetener in their teas and I hate it, aka Blue Lagoon and Snickerdoodle. I think they are trying to tap into the younger generation who don’t drink tea and need the sweetness. But it also does not allow for new blends to be added where the tea is just good with nothing in it.

That said, I enjoyed Snickerdoodle on the second steep more because it still had that cinnamon flavour characteristic of the cookie, but none of the artificial sugary sweetness. The first steep was overwhelming and I drank it over a longer period. I was so excited for this tea and now I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. Somewhat in the middle I guess.

This tastes like the cinnamon hearts that you eat on valentines day. I do not like those cinnamon hearts, but for those who do you will LOVE this.

I followed the advise of the David’s Tea representative and used slightly less tea per cup than the 1 1/4 tsp. that they recommend. The water that I use is “instant hot water” out of the dispenser at the office, and it works just fine for this rooibos. It comes out sweet and buttery, and is very nice after lunch.
