Well I must be a glutton for punishment.
I braced myself again for this tea expecting more of the same. To avoid this I did two things asked them to give me the tea bag so the water could cool more and allowed the tea to steep more.
What did this acheive? Well not much. Aside from the paper cup, the tea can’t help that, and the overly malted base there’s very little to the tea. It tastes smokey and burnt and the burgomot is this time nigh on overpowering the rest of tea. To me it’s in one word, “unbalenced”. Too much citrus and malt, and too little fruit and spice that dots the palate as you drink. And yet as it cools it’s evolving, rounding like a wine with age, dare I say balanced.
Maybe the tea is tempramental and requires some coaxing to pull it out. Maybe, but it’s got one more chance.
Preparation
I arrived an hour early to university today as unknowingly I did not have a class. So turning misfortune into opportunity I decoded to have my first cup of the day. I walked into a new coffee and tea shop that has just opened to see what they offer, teas by T2 it seems. Bother.
None the less I place my order for Earl Grey and despite the fact it is dispensed on a paper cup I take a seat in their comfy seats. Now the tea. After what could only have been 60 seconds the tea is already jet black and although risking biting mh mouth I taste it and no flavourhas yet been imbued in the liqour. I smell burgamot but that’s it. A little citrus here and there but other than an overly malty back note reminicent of every cheap tea I might as well have ordered the dish water.
Well atleast there’s hope for the day.
Preparation
A traditional tea for those addicts amongst us that need that “taste of British tea”, but with a slightly sweet, floral taste to it as well. Seems to need less sugar than normal to bring the flavour out, and goes well with a small amount of milk.
Definitely a favourite.
Preparation
The licorice root in this is amazing – it doesn’t taste like licorice candies, there’s just a very smooth and sweet general flavour and aftertaste. It’s definitely not overpowering, and the fennel seeds and peppermint help balance out the sweetness with freshness.
I tried it iced in the store and was sold, it’s just as yummy hot – better, even, as when cold the peppermint harked back to mouthwash a little bit(!).
Preparation
This is one of my favourite teas – the sweet pear and jasmine really gives that added refreshing zing that you get a hint of with bergamot. (This comes out especially when you drink it black.)
Everyone I’ve introduced to this tea has adored it.
Preparation
I don’t ordinarily go for vanilla flavours, but was definitely pleasantly surprised! I am a big fan of strong black teas, and love English Breakfast, so this was a well-chosen gift for me.
The vanilla adds just an edge of sweetness, it’s certainly not dessert-like, or at all artificial.
The beaniness of the vanilla flavour means it tastes very good with soy milk, too.
Preparation
I just used up the last of this the other day. The dry leaves are attractively twisted and the jasmine aroma is good. This is my go-to everyday jasmine tea. It’s refreshing and flavoursome, and difficult to brew wrong – one of the few non-black teas I am relatively confident about ordering in a cafe or restaurant. I think it’s best brewed with slightly cooled water, but boiling water won’t completely ruin it. It cold-brews nicely too. Not the highest quality jasmine out there but for the price it’s pretty good.
Interestingly this was one of the only 2 teas I could stomach early in my pregnancy (the other one being T2 chai) when I was constantly nauseous and couldn’t drink tea !
Preparation
Defines my rating scale. The crack cocaine of teas. A delicate aroma and light astringency leave your mouth and mind refreshed.
It is tempting to add more than a pinch of tea to the pot, but resist; the flavour will evolve with steeping.
Preparation
If you’re going to buy chai from T2, make sure it’s the organic version not the regular version! This is a good blend of spices – cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamon & star anise. It’s certified organic & has all natural ingredients. An excellent example of chai – try brewing it with vanilla soy milk & honey for optimum results.
Preparation
Black tea flavoured with peach, bergamont, sunflowers, & rose-petals. Quite floral, with only a hint of bergamont – the Earl Grey for people who don’t like Earl Grey, perhaps? I like to have it in the afternoon with something decadent like a piece of lemon meringue pie.
