518 Tasting Notes
I like how this tea is the perfect amount of citrus for me. It’s so nice and relaxing and tasty and I’m gonna have another one of these tonight.
Of course it’ll be messy. My awesome, beloved Thermos with tea infuser started leaking when I’ve got the infuser in it and I flip it upside down. At least I’m still within the return window and Amazon is shipping me a new one. At least I had something to return this time. I shattered my ForLife NewLeaf mug earlier this week – knocked it right off the table onto the heat register. Kablewey! Glass everywhere! This is not my week for teaware, apparently.
This is my first try at Oolong. So far, I like it. This one is somewhat metallic in flavor, but not in a bad way. I like the way it feels in my mouth. It has an interesting nose, but I can’t quite pin what it is. Outdoorsy after a rain of smell, but not quite that, either. Anyway, I like it smells, I like the way it feels, I like the taste. I’m obviously having a hard time putting this one in words.
Preparation
I got this one from carol who in a mini swap. It’s sweet and slightly tart. I like it. I don’t have a lot to say about it. It’s not overwhelming, but it’s nice. I placed an order with The Tea Spot just before I tried this (I meant to try it before I ordered, but my brain isn’t quite 100% right now with this blah I’ve got going on) and I completely forgot. It worked out okay because I don’t think I would ordered this, but it was nice to try.
The second steep wasn’t quite as sweet or tart, but it was still there.
Preparation
I now have a bunch of new teas in my cupboard, and here I am with an old, familiar friend. I now have an absolutely horrid cough going on; I’m worried it’s pertussis. I just wanted something I know, something warm and comfortable. This tea is it.
Thanks, keychange. I am also an asthmatic, so I’m the one who gets all the horrible coughs. This isn’t like my usual horrible coughs, though, so that’s part of why I think it might be different. I’m still holding out hope that it’s allergy related.
This tea came from carol who and I’ve been excited to try this one. I just wanted to be sure I would have time to enjoy it.
Oh, just opening the little plastic baggie this tea came in was heavenly. Spearmint is my favorite of the mints, and this definitely smells spearmint. Mmmm. The difference between the spearmint and the gunpowder leaves in the tea is immediately apparent, and they’re in an almost perfect balance. Beautiful.
Lifting the infusion basket out of the mug, and I’m hit with the scent of the spearmint. Dreamy. I let it rest a moment and just inhale the smells. Oh the smells. My nose is happy, but my mouth is waiting.
The first sip. The spearmint envelops me. I love it. Then I taste the gunpowder, just faintly, and it has that almost coppery aftertaste. Mmmm. The next sip, I taste the green grassy flavor a little more, and it still ends slightly metallic.
Now this, this is a splendid cup of tea.
Thank you, carol who!!!
Preparation
I got enough of this for one mugful from KallieBoo! in a mystery stash sale box. It was actually a lot yummier than I expected. It definitely is a nice balance of chocolate and mint, and quite a decent amount of both. A lot of chocolate mint teas I’ve had before have been weak on the chocolate or the mint or both. This was rich chocolate and tingly mint. I didn’t get vanilla, though, but that may have been because it just combined in with the chocolate flavor and made it creamier. I don’t know. All I know was this was a very nice treat for myself this morning.
I keep trying to get a time when I can really sit and enjoy this tea, and write up a good review. Sigh. Today was not that day. It could have been, but I got distracted when I was steeping it and I oversteeped it. By about 7 minutes. Which is not so good for a green tea that is only supposed to go 1-3 minutes. It wasn’t undrinkable, but I know it’s not the way this tea is supposed to be, so no good review yet. (And I had this all ready for my morning conference call that only one other person called in for. Neither of us are the key people needed at this point in thing, either. Grrr.)
