95 Tasting Notes
This is great. I hot steeped it and am enjoying it warm. I love the mix of spices here. On some sips I can strongly taste the wonderful green oolong with its slightly tangy edge. On other sips the savory sensation of toasted rice and coriander is dominant. The cinnamon is barely present, but I seem to be less sensitive to cinnamon than others. I could easily drink large quantities of this, but I only have a small amount so I’ll enjoy it one cup at a time.
Preparation
I brewed this with boiling water for 3 minutes and then cooled it in the refrigerator. This is a very softly spiced black tea with no astringency or bitterness. It is really smooth. I taste cardamom. I’m not sure I would have picked out the cinnamon if I didn’t know it was there. The chocolate makes the whole tea meld together and taste super smooth without actually tasting very much like chocolate. It’s more of a suggestion of chocolate, a lingering in the aftertaste. The taste reminds of baked goods. It is quite yummy!
Preparation
I brewed this with 140°F water for about 10 minutes. So, I didn’t follow the guidelines this time, but I was curious. I think it came out much smoother and more minty this way.
I have discovered that I tend not to appreciate Puerh tea. So, I was hesitant to try this. However, the addition of the mint and tulsi is great. The taste is very earthy with a minty and juniper main body. Definitely a thicker feeling tea. This tea is so smooth and slightly anise sweet. The aftertaste is very short and pleasant.
This tea was definitely interesting and fun to try. I preferred the other two though. Northern Wilds was awesome!
Preparation
I love cilantro. It is one of my favorite garnishes, and I love to cook with it. So, this tea intrigued me when I first saw it. I knew I had to try it. And, I love it, just as I expected to.
I used a larger than normal amount and steeped for only 30 seconds for this tasting, but it’s a very flexible tea that is really good steeped many different ways. This tea doesn’t easily become bitter.
For me the flavor is mostly cilantro with a hint of cream and a delicious white tea base. The pineapple comes through as a generic tropical fruit note in the background. And, I love it.
Preparation
I typically don’t like to post multiple tasting notes for the same tea. But, this one is worth it. I have had several black teas in a row that I thought were pretty good. Then I made up a batch of this and am reminded how amazing a good flavored black tea can be. This is one of my favorites.
52Teas does blueberry and cream flavors so well. And, these flavors have a great shelf life. This tea had to be a couple years old. I found a small amount in an old package at the back of my cupboard. I brewed it hot and chilled it overnight in the refrigerator. If anything, the age has mellowed the black tea base, which used to have something of a bitter edge to it if brewed even slightly too long. This time I brewed for 4 minutes and the black tea turned out lovely, malty, and pleasantly astringent without any bitterness. It’s a great complement to the flavors, which are stronger for the longer brewing time. As before, I love that this tea doesn’t have a funky aftertaste that often accompanies flavored teas. In fact, the aftertaste is a continuation of the blueberry zabaglione flavor. Really love this tea.
I’ve been drinking tea long enough now that I have old tea packages that I never finished from years ago. Sometimes it’s because they just weren’t good enough to finish given all my other options, or maybe the package got lost, or in some cases it’s because I loved them and wanted to save the last little bit (like this one). As I come across these lost packages it’s interesting to see which ones are still good. This one is great. Many aren’t.
Preparation
I made a pitcher of this tea at the beginning of the week and have been enjoying it chilled each morning. I brewed it using water just under boiling for 3 minutes.
This is a great caramel black tea. It is smooth, creamy, and kind of sweet. I don’t add sugar or dairy to my tea in general. The sweetness in this case is all the tea. The cheesecake comes through in the aftertaste for me. This has been an enjoyable tea that I looked forward to drinking.
Preparation
Republic of Tea makes some awesome products, like Plantain Coconut Green Rooibos, Mango Chili Green Roooibos, and Pomegranate Green Tea. I get their sample bags in the mail and some have been stellar like the Pumpkin Chai sample that comes at the beginning of fall. So, when I saw this new line of teas from them I jumped on it. I got the Lemon Chiffon and Blueberry Bundt since both are caffeine free. The Lemon Chiffon was clearly the better of the two.
This is a rooibos, so I use boiling water and let it steep upwards of 10 minutes. The first disappointing thing is that it really doesn’t taste anything like blueberry for me. There is a slightly cakey taste that leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. There is a woodiness from the rooibos, but it is mainly overpowered by some other taste I can’t really place. All in all, it was drinkable. I am just about finished with the whole tin, but I wouldn’t buy it again.
Preparation
This is amazing. I can’t believe it took me so long to try this. I cold brewed this pouch overnight in 2 quarts of water just as directed. It tastes just like lime cola just short of the fizzles. It is smooth and just a touch astringent with a nice typical black tea aftertaste. This is a great iced tea.
Preparation
I brewed this with 200°F for 1.5 minutes.
I love the Laoshan black tea and rose flavored teas, so I knew I would like this. It is a beautiful tea. The rose petals are lovely. The tea is smooth with a strong bergamot taste and rose in the aftertaste. It is really good.
Preparation
I brewed this using 195°F water for 3 minutes and put it in the refrigerator to chill overnight.
This is delicious. I love the soft creamy cinnamon, and I’m sure I taste a hint of butter. The aftertaste is almost cinnamon roll. The black tea melds really well into these flavors and adds maltiness without bitterness or astringency. This tea tastes best when it is allowed to come to the cool side of room temperature.
