From Verdant Tea

Fine buddy white tea with old-school jasmine scenting

Wang Yanxin’s iconic wild Yunnan white tea blended with night jasmine blossoms has been one of our most popular teas for over a decade! Notes of luscious creamy jasmine, honeyed peach, cardamom, and whipped cream.

This spring harvest pre-Qing Ming white tea is traditionally scented and made with Da Bai varietal white tea. This white tea is not sprayed with artificial oils or aromas. Instead, it is dried together with fresh jasmine blossoms scattered among the buds, allowing the natural aroma of the jasmine to absorb over several days into the tea itself. The process of adding fresh wild Yunnan jasmine blossoms is repeated six times over six days to get a full rich and creamy infusion that holds its intense sweetness and natural potency over many steepings. The creamy dessert-like Yunnan silver needle white tea is the perfect delicate pairing with Lincang’s local luscious jasmine.

I received a sample of this with my Verdant tea order that arrived yesterday (Yay!). The tea pieces are large and substantial – largest white tea I’ve seen before (although, I’m pretty new to this). Previously, I had been on the fence about jasmine, if that’s possible – I see on these boards that most people either love or hate it. Once I added a touch of sugar which really enhanced the jasmine flavor, this was wonderful! Very smooth with the white tea flavors and jasmine blending well together. I steeped this 3 times, adding a minute to each steeping, and all were excellent. Yummy!

I adore a good jasmine tea, and am very pleased with this one with its smooth, mellow flavor. My favorite time to enjoy it is in the evening, especially since white teas are lower in caffeine. I add a little stevia, but I do that with all teas. For me, it holds up to 3 steepings (Western Style).-maybe 4. One of my favorites and would order again.

Probably the whitest of all white teas I´ve tasted so far. The jasmine notes lingers for just the right amount of time before returning you to the white tea itself.. and then again, unexpectedly, it comes back. Take care not to over-brew it, it will be bitter in just a few more seconds (learned the hard way about this) but brewed the right way, it is really nice.

Got this as part of my Verdant 5 for $5 pack, tried it tonight as I wanted something light that didn’t need too much fuss. I love jasmine tea so I have high hopes for this!
The tea is very pale, a beautiful champagne colour. Lots of delicate flavour, very floral yet not overwhelmingly ‘perfume’ as some jasmine teas can be. There is a definite sweetness to the aftertaste too. Just off to attempt a third steep, am hopeful it will hold up well! I think I will try the rest of my sample in my gaiwan… I’m still getting to grips with it & I think this tea will work perfectly!

So I got this tea in my $5 Verdant tea tester box. I just got done steeping it but I’m a little worried, my instructions said to steep in just under boiling water for 30 seconds. I see lots of people steeping theirs at 175. Hmmm, hopefully this will still turn out good.

To me, jasmine doesn’t smell very floral. It’s distinctive, but I’m not sure I have a word or description that I can form from what my brain is processing. I have a love of all things rose, so I’m definitely not shy about floral teas. Well, floral anything for that matter. I had a rose ice cream once and it was absolutely wonderful!

I think I had a jasmine tea a while back, before steepster when I was just starting to try loose leaf teas. I don’t think I liked it very much, so I was intimidated trying this. It’s just now cooled down enough to sip and I must say that whatever nightmare I might have tested in the past has been washed away by this sample today.

The jasmine is not overpowering in the taste, though by the smell I thought it might be. Still not sure what my take is on jasmine teas, they just don’t give me that excitement like rose does. I plan on trying one in a green tea for sure, maybe some pearls.

Steep #1: Smells abundantly like jasmine, but the taste is delicate. No chemical/soapy aftertaste at all. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that the tea is a white, but I’m feeling like the rest of the body of the tea isn’t strong enough to carry this jasmine. It needs… a little more. (That’s why I’d like to try a green jasmine.) I wish I had enough to try iced.

Steep #2: Still the heavy (but wonderful) scent of jasmine. Steeped this a little longer, about 1:15 or so. The first steep was about 45 seconds. The jasmine in the sip has calmed down a little, which brings the actual tea a little more to the front. I’m enjoying this cup more than the first I think. This really makes me want to join their monthly tea club. I think it would help me refine my tea tastings.

Steep #3: Whoops! This was a lot longer of a steep… around 5 minutes. The color is still much lighter than the first though. Not sure if this should be my last steep or not, it’s a little light. Getting more jasmine this time, odd. This is the first hint of green I’ve tasted in this cup though, I like it!

Steep #4: Not expecting much out of this one, but I’m going to steep it extra long and experiment. Yep, this is the last steeping. Still getting jasmine scent and faint taste though. Something else coming out at the end, but it’s giving me a dry taste in my mouth. Is this the pine? I’m not sure. Actually clearing my sinuses a bit. Haha. Overall, this was one long cup of tea through the steepings! But I enjoyed it.

I tried the 5 teas for $5 deal from Verdant Tea and I enjoyed all of the samples I received, except for this one. IMO, it was just…bad. The only reason I’m not giving it a lower score is because I’m not a huge fan of white teas in general so I’m trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it’s just me.

This tea really surprised me. I brew it only some seconds in a small gaiwan. The taste was just like the heavenly jasmine smell of a late night in Thailand. I have been looking for the quality tea that brings out this natural good taste. Now I finally found it.

Looks and smells fresh in the bag, which is always nice (though I’m not surprised; this company is an excellent tea source). Apparently this is made with real jasmine, another plus. The first thing I noticed about this tea is the jasmine is not overpowering like some jasmine teas, it is blended in nicely on smell and taste. Very refreshing. This would be a great tea for Summer.

Oh wow. Just…wow. I have to be in the mood for jasmine tea, and I was so I tried some of my sample from Verdant Teas – and…wow. Very very smooth and gentle, absolutely no bitterness at all, and the jasmine perfume is incredible both when opening the package and while drinking. It’s a pure aroma, but not overly strong. By far the best jasmine I’ve had. I need to order some more of this along with their Holy Basil!
