1812 Tasting Notes

Just finished my sample of this. It was a tasty, semi-rich shou. Worked great for a morning cuppa at work.

Edit: I suppose I should rate, based on my personal enjoyment. Hmmm…90/100.

Bit of sweetness and some good walnut + green tea taste.

drank Guangzhou Milk Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

Tasty, but not much for milky aroma, and the flavor – while good – is not up to par with most milk oolongs available.

drank Forever Nuts by DAVIDsTEA

#24DaysOfTea Day 1 – The apple-cinnamon taste is pretty good, and this makes a pleasant herbal blend. I know the nut is almonds, but it reminds me of walnuts for some reason. For the first cup, I steeped it at 7 minutes. Then, in the second cup, I resteeped the same blend, plus some Sungma Classic SFTGFOP1 from Tea Time for a bit of a nutty caffeine hit. Despite the resteep, the nutty aromas are still there, and the apple-cinnamon is a good accompaniment to the light black tea.

Starting the morning in a great way with a four-cup pot of this. The citrus notes are especially prominent, as I only used enough leaf for three cups and then let it sit for a longer stretch of time.

drank Lady Grey by Twinings

Drinking almost the end of this tin. I remember the days, not long ago, when I used to drink this on a daily basis. Okay, so it was a decently long time ago.

Funny how tastes change!

Spencer

It is! The cup was still pretty good, but I am not sure I will be going and ordering a flat of six tins, like I did years ago.

drank Oolong Supreme by DAVIDsTEA

I got this tea as part of the Frequent Steeper program, and it was a great use of my free two ounces. I drink a lot of oolongs for my blog, and, while this is not an amazing oolong, it was a pretty solid offering from DavidsTea.

Kittenna

Heh, I used my free 50g on this one too :D

Spencer

The free 50g before that was spent on their Pouchong Oolong – equally tasty, but for different reasons.

Spencer

Whereas this one is roasted a bit, the Pouchong is floral and greener.

Kittenna

I like the pouchong, but felt more like getting a bunch of something roasty. I might have 150g free this time around…. who knows what I’ll get…

After drinking water for most of the day, I made a cup of this, western-style. The first oddity was that I drank water for most of the day. The second oddity was that I made this western-style, steeping for four minutes instead.
It was pleasant, but not big on flavor. Perhaps I did not use enough leaf, or perhaps this would be better with a gong-fu brewing.

This morning’s pot of tea. I have no idea why I went for this over the Winter Solstice that I intended to make.

Bio

“I love trading tea and trying new teas. My favourites are oolong (mainly Chinese) and pu’erh.
Will gladly talk all day about tea.”

The above was my bio when I joined five years ago, and I felt it needed to be updated. I still love pu’erh, though I have begun to take preference toward cooked, shou. Oolongs are certainly still a go-to tea for me, but I have expanded my horizons to begin including greens and blacks based upon the weather and how I am feeling.

Still more than glad to talk about tea – anytime, anywhere, anyplace.
Additionally, if fountain pens, books, music, or computers are on the discussion list…

My ratings, this “personal enjoyment scale” about which I talk, are just that – based on how much I enjoyed the tea. I might have enjoyed it immensely, yet do not keep it stocked for various reasons. On the flip side, I have a few teas that are “good” but not “great,” which I keep stocked for various reasons.
