307 Tasting Notes
Had a cup of Sencha Ashibuko this evening.
The scent was wonderful. Musky. The “grassy” scent came through as well, but in a pleasant way.
I found the taste to be less appealing, however. I didn’t think I steeped it for too long, but it was already becoming a little bitter. I suppose an even shorter brewing time would be best. Although I finished the cup, I found myself becoming bored of it halfway through. Not a bad tea at all, but not one of my favourites to date.
This tea has a wonderful musky taste to it. Rich, with a bit of a creamy feel (as the name suggests), it reminds me of my uncle’s home: leathers, wood, and a mixture of the old and art neveau.
I was told that the second brew is best, but I found the strength of the first much more preferable. Still nice the second time around, mind.
Preparation
On the sixth day of Tea-mas DAVIDsTEA gave to me….
It’s the lemongrass that really hits me with this tea, which is good — I happen to love lemongrass. It’s relaxing, and a nice, “natural”-tasting flavour. I look forward to having it again when I need the detox, to see how it makes me feel then. But today? It was just a nice breath of fresh air, and a relaxing match for my daily reading.
Oh, and it didn’t seem to oversteep when I left it alone for a long while, which is ALWAYS a plus.
Preparation
Refined, adult, and delicate. A short steep time, because it oversteeps easily. But it still tastes so… refined. I feel more adult just drinking this.
There’s a bit of a metalic aftertaste, which I associate with green tea in general (though nowhere near as strong as when I oversteep…), but it is wonderfully subtle here. Definitely the best green tea I’ve had to date.
Preparation
On the fourth day of Christmas DAVIDsTEA gave to me….
This is the first day on the advent calendar that was a tea I’ve drank before. My opinion hasn’t changed much. It’s musky, and chocolate-raspberry-y. The almonds give a nutty depth that matches with the chocolate and raspberry quite nicely. Mate has an interesting flavour to it, and although it doesn’t have quite the same comfort as camellia sinensis, but delicious nonetheless. Still can’t quite feel the promised energy boost, but I’m fine enough with a good-tasting tea.
Honestly, I found this smelled and tasted like apples and cinnimon oatmeal. I certianly could find the cinnamon in the tea, though the mint from which it acquired its name appeared more lost, with only hints appearing. I would like this to take a more prominent place to suit the name.
Preparation
When I smelled it, I thought of Five Alive and tropical punches.
The taste certainly backed this up, however I found it to be a little… hollow in taste. It seemed to me like something was missing in the flavour profile that was stopping it from being amazing. Still, it was a good drink.
Preparation
Day 1 of DavidsTea advent calendar!
I’m worried that I may have made the tea a bit too weak, but am enjoying it nonetheless. The tea smells like melty mints — a scent that reminds me of Christmas, though not in a traditional sense.
The mint and chocolate come through strongest in the taste as well, though I wish that everything were stronger. There’s a lovely hint of sweetness due to the candy, but the tea doesn’t come across as sweet — this more counters any bitterness that could otherwise appear.
Hopefully a stronger brew will enhanse this tea, but it certainly doesn’t taste bad weak either.
Preparation
I can honestly say that this is the best coffee bean-based beverage I’ve ever tasted.
Admittedly, this infusion is my first experience with white coffee as well.
The chai is spicy — not my favourite chair ever, but still quite a good brew. The scent is a little strong for me, but the same can be said of some chai teas as well, and I love them just the same. Perhaps not my favourite beverage in existance, but saying how well this rates against anything else coffee I’ve had EVER, this is a huge success in my books.
Preparation
For someone who’s tried and did not particularily like Terry’s Chocolate Raspberries, I was surprised to find I rather liked the chocolate and raspberry notes that come through in this tea. I haven’t found myself particularly high-energy after, but I don’t mind the lack of effect — I will have to try again on a day I feel particularly tired.
There is an interesting smokey taste to it, it added a boldness to the flavour that I also enjoyed.
I look forward to continuing to drink the sample that I bought of this tea.
