I’m not a big green tea drinker, but I am a sucker for gunpowder green tea + spearmint. Something about the combination of that “vegetable green” taste and mint just soothes me. The low stimulant factor makes it a great nighttime tea too. For two years I purchased Moroccan Mint from Teavana to satisfy my gunpowder green + spearmint cravings. Kusmi included a sample of this in one of my orders and one taste had me hooked. I tossed out the Teavana blend in favor of this and never looked back!

Green tea bags. You can see the rolled up green tea inside the muslin. Gum like spearmint and green tea that’s almost unnoticeable until the very end of cup, this actually tastes fine. This is the best one of the teas I bought from Kusmi, didn’t notice astringency or smokiness.

1.25tsp steeped 4 minutes in 80C water, drunk bare.

Okay, first off: I over-steeped this. Instructions suggest 3-4 minutes, but 4 may be too long for the green in this blend, which I’m finding bitter. Adding some water really helps there; I’ll do a shorter steep next time.

Apart from the self-inflicted and easily-solved bitterness, this is a beautiful mint green tea. The spearmint scent on the dry leaf is strong, almost overpowering. The steeped tea is much more balanced between what looks and tastes like a gunpowder green and gorgeous, vibrant spearmint.

Mint can help clear my head, so I am finding this a grounding, soothing cuppa.

This is pretty typical for a mint green tea. Nothing bad, but nothing new. The green tea adds a bit of intrigue to the mint, but I prefer both green tea and mint paired with different things over this combination.

Adventaggedon Day 7: Tea 2/7

An incredibly simple blend, but one of my favourites from the day. The spearmint in it is so strong that I could faintly smell it through the packaging – definitely the first case of that with any of the overwrapped sachets from the advent so far. I steeped it up as my first tea of the morning and that sweet and soothing spearmint with the slightly smokey and vegetal green tea base was so calm and relaxing. Like a little morning moment of aromatherapy – especially with the golden glow of the rising sun.

I had the last half of the teacup with a spoonful of homemade gooseberry jam because I felt inspired to try and loosely recreate the gooseberry/spearmint combination in DT’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Definitely more spearmint in this tea than the DT blend by a lot but it was a fun nod to that unique flavour combination!

And here´s my review of the other Kusmi tea I was treated to with my l´occitane order.
It smells really like the green chewing gum of my youth (I don´t know whether it still exists, as I haven´t been chewing gum since ages)…amazing! And once steeped it´s nice, refreshing, but it doesn´t have the fresh minty kick to it as for instance Palais des Thés´ “menthe glaciale” has! Oh well…

Advent Day 9

This is a mint tea for sure. Yup, there is mint in there. I don’t taste the green tea under the mint. It seems well balanced and the mint has only the slightest nip to it. It’s really nice and adds slight comfort when cringing through the sound a tiny roommate practicing the recorder outside, but I wouldn’t go buy a tin of it especially when there are less expensive options out there for a similar profile.

Kusmi Advent Day 9

I’ve been very much in a mint tea mood, and always enjoy a flavored green tea…so this was a welcome sight this morning. In particular, it was nice to have a break from all of the rooibos/honeybush blends.

The green base is smooth and lacks any bitterness. It is slightly vegetal. Mostly a fresh, cooling spearmint.

Not too sharp, making this a green tea rather than an herbal was a brilliant choice. Refreshing, not too astringent and no overly high notes.
