Orange Pekoe (Organic)

The classic of all black teas and I had never tried the DT version before now. Imagine that! This is definitely a comfot tea because it is so familiar, and I love that. In my opinion it definitely does taste better than the pre-packaged/already in a bag varieties. Or maybe I’ve just become a tea snob this past year, haha.

Having always drank orange pekoe in bagged form, I was pleasantly surprised with this tea. I expected to need lots of milk (skim) to mask its bitterness, but I was mistaken. Something in this tea gives it an aroma and flavourful taste I never would have expected. I put 1.5 tsp into a pot with near-boiling water for 4 minutes. Be warned though: this tea cannot be resteeped without bitterness, and steeping for more than 5 minutes (I’d recommend 4) gives it an unpleasant aftertaste that one can’t ignore. I’d give it an 85 out of 100, for its very specific steeping needs and its inability to be resteeped. Still a great tea though.

This was a pleasant surprise, especially since I oversteeped it like crazy! I definitely will drink it again, though I think for simplicity I will stick to the boxed tea when I get Orange Pekoe again. I just don’t notice too much of a difference in taste!

Day 3/24 of 24 Days of Tea (DAVIDs Advent Calendar)

Anyone who follows me knows I cannot drink black tea due to a sensitive stomach. Therefore, in order to do this review I brewed up a big mug of this tea for my husband and took maybe 3 sips for myself just to get the flavor (even then my stomach didn’t like me…shouldn’t have had it on an empty stomach…).

The tastes I got out of this was a medium body, a bit of a “mineral” taste, and a slight bit of astringency/bitterness with the aftertaste. Altogether a nice, standard cup of tea. Anyone who wants to get into loose leaf should start with something like this.

Just very good in general! Although I am okay paying less money for other brands of Orange Pekoe

DT keeps sending me this as a sample in online orders. Not as bland this time.

The flavor of this tea seems very mild. It seems to be missing that distinct “this is definitely orange pekoe” flavor and depth (particularly in the after-taste). However, I grew up drinking this tea from tea bags, so I could be wrong. But, if you’re looking for a mellow, organic version of orange pekoe, this might be for you!
