36 Tasting Notes
Well, this is the first of my samples from MissB that I haven’t liked. And apparently this is just not my tea day… I had to pour out 2 teas in a row! To me this one smelled a lot like maple syrup, and tasted like it a little too. It felt like it left a coating on my tongue, and my tongue got sort of numb/tingly feeling? Not good. I could only make it 1/2 way through my cup… seemed like each sip tasted worse than the one before.
Preparation
Finished off my sample this morning, and I swear this stuff is working. Maybe it’s just a placebo effect, but I usually I get full-blown sickness pretty quickly after the first signs, and now it’s been an entire day and I feel better than when I drank this last night! Not worse, not even the same… better! I let it steep a little longer this time (8 min.) to try to get a little more of the medicinal goodness. I think this one’s going to be a winter staple.
Preparation
Ok this one makes me sad. How can I not like it? I’m supposed to like it. I’m supposed to LOVE it, it came so highly recommended! Maybe I did something wrong? I didn’t get any chocolate taste, though there were plenty of chocolate chips. It didn’t seem like the boiling water melted them at all. Maybe I should’ve stirred it? In any case, all I got was a very… green? earthy?… something I didn’t like, with some cooling peppermint at the end of each sip. Definitely not a peppermint patty in my cup. I ended up pouring it out :(
I’ll definitely give it another shot though… it gets so many rave reviews I feel bad for not liking it! Will try stirring next time to see if that helps bring out the chocolate. I’m open to suggestions!
Preparation
One more sample from MissB (there’s a lot of them!)
My throat started feeling a little weird yesterday, not bad, just not normal. Then out of nowhere I got a nosebleed last night, and more of a sore throat today… so as I surveyed the pile of samples to choose my tea for tonight, I knew I had to give this one a try. Normally I catch everything that’s going around, so I’m really hoping this will fight off the germs and keep me well. The good news is it doesn’t taste bad! I wasn’t sure what to expect since it’s more of a medicinal tea, and I’m not typically a big fan of ginger, but surprisingly I enjoyed this. Of course I’ll stick with sweeter, yummier teas most of the time, but if this helps me avoid getting sick I’ll definitely stock up!
Preparation
Another tea sample from MissB!
This tastes like a chocolate orange, which our family always enjoyed at Christmas until my dad suddenly developed a strong citrus allergy. I had it for breakfast this morning, but I think I would enjoy it even more as a nighttime treat.
Preparation
Last night’s bedtime treat. I do wish it tasted as good as it smells, because it smells amazing! But it was still very, very good. I liked it so much I decided to have a 2nd cup! I re-steeped for a little longer (7-8 min) and thought it was just as good as the 1st cup.
Preparation
Another sample from MissB, had this one for breakfast. I’m not into spiced teas so I was a little concerned about the cinnamon, but it wasn’t red-hot-cinnamon-candy cinnamon, it really was yummy-cinnamon-roll cinnamon! Though I didn’t get much pastry or icing flavor. I’ll probably read some more tasting notes and play around with the temperature & time on this to see if I can get more of the genuine cinnamon roll taste everyone raves about, but even without it I thought this was very good.
Preparation
Got 2 oz. more of this for Christmas, so I made some before church tonight. Still really like the taste, and it seems like the other ingredients in this batch aren’t quite as large as the last, so hopefully it will go a bit further.
Preparation
Backlog. This is something I never would have picked for myself (it doesn’t sound yummy), but it was recommended and raved about, so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m thinking people must only drink this with added milk and/or sweetener? But I’m trying to avoid both, so that doesn’t work for me. I really disliked the taste of this, and had to pour it out.
Yea, I wasn’t a fan of this one either. Do you have issues with red rooibos?
I went back through my tealog and it looks like the only other one I’ve had with red rooibos is Teavana’s White Chocolate Peppermint, but I’ve had plenty of that one with no problems, so I’m guessing it has something to do with the flavorings? A couple years ago I suddenly developed a reaction to anything strawberry (made my tongue swell) but I’ve successfully had strawberries since then so I don’t know… maybe it’s artificial strawberry that causes it? Though I don’t know if this one even has strawberry, the ingredients aren’t clear.
DAVIDs are really bad for proper ingredient listings. I’ve got a moderately bad strawberry allergy, and a problem with all grains, so I understand completely.
