50 Tasting Notes
oh la la… an early First Flush from the Rohine Estate India.
Pluck Feb. 14, 2015.
Very green, very nutty, and no bitter notes.
This is a superb FF! One of the best FF I have tasted in years.
Flavors: Muscatel
Preparation
received a 5g sample for my monthly sub from white2tea.
Was excited as I had heard so much about orchid dancongs, and never got around to try it.
long leaf, smells grainy, like freshly baked bread.
steep 2gr. 200 ml. kamjove teamaker 90 C, 1 minute.
I may be doing something wrong, coz I can’t seem to steep this one right. It’s bitter, and not at all the taste I had anticipated..
Tried several steeps, but none was o.k. I guess this is not my cup of tea. Too difficult to get the steep right for an o.k. cup of tea, well, maybe some other time, but for now, a no no for me.
Preparation
yum! received this generous sample from Hotsoup.
I normally love/drink green/light& medium roasted oolongs, and have not tried a coal -fired oolong before. This one is from 2001 and has been fried each year over and over again…
Initially, it smells like b-b-q. deep smoke with hints of wet woodland and mushrooms. Deep black, roasted nuggests.
liqour: black, almost like a black coffee.
Teapot: my Kamjove teapot, 200ml. 1 min. steeping time
Notes: very thick mouthfeel, cherries, plumps, chocolate, raisins…… it is SWEET. Huhh, that comes as a surprise….
No hints of smoke whatever…. just pure sweetness….
WOW this is complex …. I love it.
Absolutely great. Can be steeped 20 times plus at least.
Will def. look for more examples of aged/deep roasted oolongs!
Flavors: Almond, Apricot, Brown Sugar, Honey, Plum, Raisins, Smoke
Preparation
this is my first try at pu ehr, and I am pleasantly surprised….
it smells like a barnyard, which I try to ignore…
1 tbl spoon, my kamjove 200ml. steeping time 1 min.
red coloured tea, very smooth & warming.
Hints of cacoa. sweet. woodsy…
since this is my first try at pu ehr ripe , I will keep this short, and add more later after
Preparation
It took me quite a while to be brave enough to try shou as well. I wasn’t sure, I kept saying, I didn’t want to risk not liking it. So then I got talked into trying just a little. Wow. I loved it.
me too, though the smell is will always be an issue….however, since I signed up for the White2Tea teaclub (love oolongs and sheng pu) I decided to have a go at shou. Was ready to pass it on to a friend who loves it… but i fear she will end up with nothing this time. :)
another darjeeling from my subscription with Golden tips India.
This pick is from Aug 10, 2013
Grade: FTGFOP1 Cl Tip
Abundant with yellowish/white & soft brown tips.
Doesn’t have distinct muscatel flavour upon opening.
2 and half spoon on the pot (450mg); steep produces rather light golden brew, lighter than most of the darjeelings I had so far….
very faint muscatel aftertaste, alas, for me, I prefer mine bold and with muscatel taste/flavour.
Generally, a good darjeeling though, even better for first time tasters that much rather fancy a less pronounced darjeeling ….
Overall, proper darjeeling and o.k.
Preparation
classic assam from the peak second flush season. Sprinkled evenly with golden tips, the tea make for a bright liquor, a full body with a unique maltiness.
TGOP1 Summer flush.
Malty, strong cup. Had this one for breakfast, and it’s actually quite good. A proper wake-=up tea.
Flavors: Malt
Preparation
One of the many assams from my Golden Tips subcription box that I need to review.
Picked this one for breakfast.
Golden brown cup. Malty. Not strong enough for me to get that kick-start in the morning. Just about average.
Flavors: Malt
Preparation
oh la la….. stop the clocks, cut off the phone…
and find yourself in (Darjeeling) Heaven…
