For my birthday, I considered Birthday Cake rooibos, but definitely needed caffeine in my morning, so I opted for this. Maybe birthday cake in the afternoon. Anyway, I’m sure this sample is pretty stale, but it was nice and mellow, smooth and satisfying. I have always adored Ceylon, and this is no exception. It doesn’t bowl me over, but soothes and envelops, while waking me up gently. A nice cup!

Yet another in my dwindling supply of ancient SpecialTeas samplers. This tea smelled malty and a little tart while brewing – almost reminiscent of vinegar, but not in a strong or unappetizing way. The taste is light and soft, however not weak at all. It’s got ever so slight a hint of citrus in the aftertaste. Really liking this tea. I might get some from elsewhere so I can try a sample that isn’t many years old and see how it compares. I’ll be sad to see this one go. SpecialTeas had pretty nice sample sizes, so I should be able to get another 3 small pots out of the bag.

drank Orange Pekoe by Tetley

I was in the mood for this one again today. Could be partially that a lot of my stash has ended up in the office. Weekends often see me with an espresso latte, instead, but today felt like a Tetley day again. Nice and satisfying…once the puppy finally went to sleep and allowed me more than 30 seconds to sit down.

This will always be what I think of first when I hear “cup of tea”. I’ve been drinking it so long,I don’t even know how to rate or describe it. I guess it just tastes warm and comforting to me, and has the familiarity of a childhood stuffed animal. I decided to have one this morning; it’s probably been a year or so since the last, but I had a craving. It’s kind of malty and so mellow. I have it with a splash of soy milk and no sweetener, and it’s just lovely. I feel so gauche waxing romantic about a bagged tea that’s been in a Ziploc bag in my cupboard for ages, but I don’t care! It’s just what I wanted this morning, as I work from home today at the island in our kitchen, enjoying the feeling of early autumn sun on my back and listening to the dog snoring on the couch.

This tea is a treat! I got to sample it in the store today, and I wasn’t sure I’d like garam masala in a tea, but it’s lovely! It lends a wonderful, rich, savoury tone to the flavour. It’s almost reminiscent of a curried pumpkin soup. I thought I would favour the Pumpkin Cheesecake when I went to sample these, but was surprised to find that I preferred this tea. I’ll definitely be adding some to my cupboard soon.

Tasted a sample of this today, and found it to be a nice, bright, refreshing blend. It’s mildly sweet and fruity, with light spicing. Very pleasant!

Still enjoying this one. It’s good and neutral, and doesn’t make my bagel taste strange, haha. Tasting a little smokiness in it this morning. Nice!

Bio

I live in Toronto, Canada, land of the fiercely intense, but short, summer, and absurdly long, equally fierce, cold autumn/winter/spring. Tea, coffee, soup, stew, chilli, mulled wine, and hot cider are staples here for a good part of the year.

Currently, I’m really digging plain black tea, chocolate and caramel accented black teas, and chais. I’m not into super grassy teas, but I like a good, smoky jasmine green. I’m told I should try some lapsang and pu’erh, which I intend to do, but I’m hella lazy. One of these days!

I live with one (very loud) Siamese cat, one (floppy-eared and goofy) Doberman Pinscher, and one (somewhat introverted and stoic) man who indulges me shamelessly. I’m pretty lucky. :)
