I’m not sure I should be drinking this right now (slight stomachache) but I could NOT resist any longer!
The smell of the dry leaves in the bag is absolutely incredible, chocolate-y goodness. I did steep this at around 180 F (who knows what the optimal temperature for mate is?)
I really wanted the malted milk ball experience so I added soymilk and a touch of turbinado sugar to this. OMG! This is so good. I am really getting the chocolate here which is rare for me and chocolate teas. I’m also getting a hint of the malt and the whole thing is just melting into my mouth like a really yummy dessert. I hope I don’t go bouncing off the walls anytime soon due to all the caffeine in this. What a big spanking cup of yum! YUM! :)

I’ve noticed there are conflicting opinions about the steeping parameters for mate. I’ve tried different things but it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference so far. Let me know if you find any thing solid about it. :D
LOL Amy! :)) Spanking cup-hahahahaa. Upton’s says 212 D for 8 min for roasted yerba mate, but when I tried it years ago, it seemed bitter for me at 212 for 5 min. If I had a cup tomorrow, I’d brew it between 180-190 and start at 4 minutes.
I’ve tried that temp. I think maybe my palate is untrained. I can’t find a notable difference between the two temps. Perhaps if I lower time, I will see a difference. I seem to get the same mate every time. Hehe, that may be a good thing since I like it.
Scott, I should point out I’ve found more steeping parameters in line with that you have said than the boiling for 5 minutes.

The few I’ve had seem to be ok when they are steeped for 7-8 minutes but I’m not using boiling water…
