818 Tasting Notes
Couldn’t resist trying this one. I mean, who can resist cookie dough? The dry leaves didn’t exactly smell like cookie dough, but they did smell sweet. Steeped, the smell is definitely chocolate chip cookie dough! How did they do that! I really wanted to like this one, but it was just too weak for me. It basically tasted like cookie dough flavored water. I haven’t delved too much into white teas, so maybe that’s the problem, but I don’t think I like this one by itself. I was thinking it might be better as a black tea. Maybe blend it with black tea? Some experimenting might be in order!
Okay, so this one was interesting. It smells like cinnamon cereal, and brews up very pink, which is kind of cool! I tasted this in the store and thought I’d like it, but after a larger cup, I’m really not sure. I think it steeps up too weak for my taste. It wasn’t super nutty, like my beloved brazillionaire. I think I’ll need to brew another cup to really get a feel for whether I like it or not.
I still am not a fan of green tea, except when I’m eating sushi, but I’m really trying to like it! I know some of you would be shocked. How can I not like green? I’ve noticed a lot of folks on here don’t like rooibos though, and I do now, even though I thought years ago that I never would. So I guess tastes can change. In hopes of learning to like green tea, I bought some of this one. It smells like caramel! I think it’s the brittle pieces in it. Steeped, it tasted a lot less sweet, although it still smelled really sweet. Weird. It tasted a lot like walnuts, which was good, but I wish, it was as sweet to taste as it smells. I’m planning to try it with honey next time and see how that goes.
Like advertised, this was just what you would expect if you were going to the spa! It’s like sweet lavender! Super calming and smooth. I actually got this because of a recommendation from someone who worked at the DavidsTea store. He recommended it when I said I loved Rooibos de Provence. Great customer service, I might add! I think his name was Aaron. I mean, isn’t that what salespeople should always do? Listen to the customers favorites and recommend something new based on that information? I sometimes find they don’t really take the time to listen, but start right off throwing recommendations at you. I guess I should probably put a Tea Place rating in. Anyway, on this tea, I liked it a lot. Not sure if it outranks Rooibos de Provence, which has more complexity to it, though. I should probably try these two back-to-back.
I had this one for the first time, first thing in the morning yesterday. Perhaps that was not the greatest idea, having a super sweet tea the day after overindulging in sweets, but I really wanted to try my new teas. So, the smell is amazing, and the first sips were definitely banana chocolatety! Somehow, though, I wasn’t sure I loved it. I think I may not be that fond of banana flavored teas, even though I like banana outside of tea. I feel like the banana makes the tea less smooth, or maybe I’m steeping it too long? Anyway, I’m going to reserve full judgement until I have another cup, maybe as an afternoon treat!
What a day! Having some of this right now! Needed something soothing for my stomach, since my husband and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s day by going out for a brownie sundae and fries. Used to be okay with the random, spontaneous " ice cream for dinner," but feeling pretty gross right now. We’ve been eating pretty healthy for awhile now…seems like the junk food was a shock to my system. Blah! Thank goodness for this tea! Something about the peppermint makes me feel better, even though I’m not a fan of minty teas. Added a little honey to offset the bitter valerian root and its perfect!
In other news, I made it to both Lupicia and DavidsTea today, and I bought a ton of different teas to try! I’m so excited to steep them all, so you’ll be hearing more from me. Just not until tomorrow.
How long did you infuse it for? I can’t recall for sure, but I feel like the general consensus was that it needed a longer infusion to bring out the flavour (and make sure you don’t underleaf!)
I think I did it for 5 minutes based on the suggested steeping time of 4-7. I’ll try it again with a longer steep time and more leaves!
