Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling is a tea of outstanding pedigree and taste. It’s not surprising that it was the favourite tea of one of the Whittard family members, Dick Whittard.
The tea is grown on Margaret’s Hope Estate, one of the oldest Darjeeling tea gardens, established high in the foothills of the Himalayas in 1859 and re-named in the 1920s after Margaret, the ownerÕs daughter. On her only visit to the garden Margaret was enchanted by it beauty and vowed to make it her home. She died on the voyage back to England and the garden was named in her memory.
A classic first flush Darjeeling, this tea is made from very young shoots picked after the rains when the first spring sun warms the bushes. The tea has a fragrant, nearly floral sweetness, with overtones that a connoisseur might compare to a fine muscatel wine.
Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling is a classic Darjeeling, displaying the right balance of flavours that make this tea so sought after. It is a tea to be savoured at any time of the day.
