Our spiced Lapsang is a balanced version of the classic black tea with a little extra oomph that leans towards medicinal herbs and crushed spices. The tea is smooth drinking with a engaging range of aromas from start to finish.

From the Wuyi region of Fujian province, this classic Lapsang Souchong black tea is often also referred to as Zhengshanxiaozhong.

Each purchase is for 25g of tea.

I got this as part of the October tea club (with “Fruit Bomb”, “Strawberry”, and “Traditional” lapsangs. It’s what it says on the tin: lots of medicinal herbs and spices over a fruity, malty black tea. The leaves are beautiful, uniform in size and fairly small. It stands up to several steepings.

Suprised that I haven’t written a note for this one yet! Was compelled to get this one from all the reviews comparing the various lapsangs on the W2T site. This tea isn’t a bbq feast like most standard LS, but it has a lovely spice to it. The spice element is light, like a nutmeg or allspice, not so heady and intense as a cinnamon. The black tea gives itself a warm baked date quality that makes the sweet spice a perfect match. The brew is bright and clear, leaving any heaviness I may associate with a LS behind. It’s very easy to drink :)

Sipdown! (36 | 116)

Really enjoyed this one, though it doesn’t taste much like a lapsang to me. Actually, it reminds me a bit more of a Taiwanese black tea, as it has smooth and mellow malty-bready notes with oodles of honey and a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on top. It’s almost a bit like toasted cinnamon raisin bread with a drizzle of honey.

Gongfu Sipdown (1286)!

Drank this over lunch today – I had originally planned to have a smoked Lapsang, but I opted at the last moment to go unsmoked so I could sneak in a sipdown instead. over lunch!! I was surprised by how sweet and bread-y the early infusions of this Lapsang were; like fresh baked caraway bread with honey and raisins! Super malty and thick as well. I always get notes of cumin, star anise, baker’s chocolate, red fruit, and just a hint of pine sap. Definitely not as “spiced” tasting of a profile as anticipated, but I did love this full bodied and syrupy black tea and it was a lovely afternoon pick-me-up!!

Sounds tasty. I almost picked that one up with Fruit Bomb, Daily Jin Jun Mei, and the other Fujian Wuyi blacks White2tea has, but I went with Trident Cafe and What-Cha for getting some unsmoked Lapsang.
