Fuxiang is a smaller pu’er company doing some great work under the radar. This wild arbor cake has a rich an immediate flavor of lotus leaf steamed sticky rice that opens into a thrilling camphory cooling sensation on the palate. The body gets heavier over several steepings with toasted rice and corn maltiness. Elderberry comes through the aftertaste.
Since we started aging this tea in Verdant reserves several years ago, we have seen the fresh sticky rice flavor grow into the kind of mature clean musty aftertaste that makes us fall in love with shu pu’er. The body gets light, buoyant and juicy while the aftertaste settles on the tongue with minerality and sweetness.
