“One of the more interesting TheTea’s 2021 sheng selection. This tea shines in its complex residual fragrance, whether it is in the cup or in the long aftertaste. Additionally, I also like its airy,...” Read full tasting note
This tea – 2021 Secret Forest Gushu Sheng Puerh – comes from the tropical forest located in Yunnan near the Laos border. The maker wants to keep the origin in secret. I chose that tea in spring blind maocha tasting when I tasted more than 25 samples from different places in Xishuangbanna.
You know… I like to have all possible information about the tea but this time I need to handle the “mystery”.
This is rather challenging tea.
Quite small leaves where the youngest leaves are nicely oval shaped smell sweet- with notes of fruit candies and floral freshness.
It starts slowly with excellent sweet jade like liquor but after second brew it opens to powerful and strong tea.
Huigan is so fast – just after swallowing the tea you can taste the amazing sweetness. Salivating effect is strong.
Taste: fresh, grassy with notes reminding me pomelo and grapefruit with their specific citrusy bitterness. When you try to eat the grapefruit seed… I mean this kind of bitterness.
In 2021 batch bitterness is more gentle than one you can find in 2020 SF cake, but it’s still present!
Some herbal notes are here too.
Energy… I can only say I can’t drink it in the evening – it’s very strong: invigorating and making you tea drunk instantly.
Before ordering cake we recommend to try the sample first.
