I finished this off last night. I think it was one of the best cups of this tea I’ve had because a lot of the matcha had settled in the tin so I swirled a bit of water in the tin and poured the rest of the matcha in my cup. I’m am getting dreadfully low on teas lately. I really need to place an order (or two).
I love the color of this tea. I like to drink this on the ship but tend to forget to take the little baggies out of my cup. It has that wonderful matcha scent and taste until it turns bitter. This is my first and only experience with matcha and I am sure it is an insult to matcha purists. LOL When I lived in San Francisco I would eat green tea ice cream and this tea reminds me how much I miss it. :) So I am off to get an ice cream maker!
Ahhh the wasted matcha! It’s so precious! Err… I meant that matcha in tea bags seems like such a waste since it falls out of the little satchel. I don’t really drink matcha plain, that’s cofftea =P. I tend to drink all mine as a latte, so delicious =P Ummm green tea ice cream… I’m craving some fried ice cream, can’t find them here in NYC =( I know they are around somewhere!
I love a matcha latte. But sometimes the milk is questionable aboard ship so I’d hate to ruin a good sip. :)

Ugh! I can’t believe you just wrote that… matcha and powdered milk. On cold days I used to bring in my own milk and store it in a smoke float holder outside.

I haven’t been to Cost Plus in months, they have really expanded their tea collection, they even have loose leaf in foil bags! There are a few others I had my eye on, but my arms were full, I’ll have to pick them up next time.
Anyway, now that I drink this tea, I remember from long ago, I think this was the very first green tea I had, because I remember the powder floating out of the tin when I opened it. It reminds me of why I fell in love with green tea! The grassy taste, the beautiful green color, semi-opaque, it even frothed when I wisked it some! The taste is so clean and creamy at the same time, it is a very nice cup to sip! Not true matcha, because it has some green tea leaves also, but not a bad substitute and it’s bagged, so it’s portable. I can totally see me having this after lunch at work to get me through the rest of the day.
Matcha in a bag really bothers me personally lol:) If I want to decant my tea, but still want something matcha-ish I’ll stick w/ mecha. Mine is loose, but you could totally put it in a filter.
I knew it would bother you! :-) But the Japanese market was closed today until Wednesday, and I was out of green tea, and I was just so so happy to find something. I think, at least for me, it’s good that it’s bagged, because I am clumsy and I tend to make a mess with powder anything-matcha, hot chocolate, sugar, all of it. But I tell ya, the matcha really makes a big appearance here in this cup.
Yeah, I’ve found making matcha when you’re sick isn’t easy, one sneeze and it’s gone lol. Better to have someone make it for you then or go this way:) Just out of curiosity, what’s the weight of one of those bags?

I have tried a few from this brand and overall I like what they do. You get a good value as well 50 bags for 10.00 or so. Not bad. Not having any experience with Matcha, I can’t speak to that aspect. I will say, the cloudy nature of the tea, the bright green color, and rich flavor make this a winner in my book. Not fancy and no bells or chimes ringing, but I find no fault in it.
I got this in my Christmas package from the States and actually, I’ve had it quite a few times but haven’t logged it yet.
Although I do feel like it’s matcha for a lazy person (I do include myself in this category only because I drink it when I wake up in the AM) it’s actually not too bad. It’s not overly bitter and the flavour is actually quite nice! The Republic of Tea blended the matcha with some other whole leaf green and actually, that’s a pretty good idea.
Erm, basically what I’m trying to say is that this is a relatively decent (and easy) green tea to make in the morning. Now I need to go finish this cuppa so I can get to work!
Hm- to me this seems like more work. Heat the water to a certain temp, let it steep, then drink. Matcha is just heat the water to a good drinking temp, dump (either eye ball or measure), wisk or drink. Or if you want cold matcha, just dump and shake.
Yeahhhh… not really though. It’s actually really easy because a) it’s bagged and b) the green isn’t anything ridiculously special and needs a higher temperature than all the other greens I have at home. Also it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than true matcha… and as a person with a very low budget (agh, to be freelance) that’s a big factor! Haha.

very very interesting. both were strong but sweet. odd, i always thought i had to brew this one for like four minutes… guess I was wrong!
This is a good standard cup of green tea. I love its muted, cloudy lime green color. Slightly astringent, a little bit smooth, somewhat grassy. It’s not spectacular and it’s a bit basic, but I would pick this one over a generic tea bag. I am looking forward to having another cup!
