Homemade Advent Exchange Tea #7

As a big fan of genmaicha, I was happy to see this in my advent calendar box. Quite bittersweet like dry wood and crispy/burnt edges of food. Toasty and with a definite genmaicha houjicha mix. It’s dark like a houjicha but very toasted and with noticeable grain notes.

Flavors: Dark Wood, Roasted Barley, Toast, Toasted Rice, Woody

Oh wow, the US shipping for this is $25, which is a shame!

That’s too bad. I bet another site will have the same type though.

Tea #5

Actually it was yesterday evening cup. But my headache for 3 days in a row made me heading to the bed right after finishing the cup.

This is very interesting tea, well actually tisane, and I am happy that I could try it. It reminded me puffed rice snacks which makes sense; but there was some extra flavour being nutty which made it even more amazing.

This one is yummy but I’m not sure there is actual rice in here, tastes too nutty and smooth. Maybe I’m cooking my rice all wrong. Thanks whoever put this in the box!

Despite being commonly referred to as Wild Rice, manoomin is actually an aquatic grass. Denise and Marc, the owners of Tea Horse, did a really good podcast episode with DAVIDsTEA where they talked more about it – icluding how its harvested. Definitely very naturally nutty tasting though, so your tasting note is spot on!

What a comfy-cozy and unique cuppa! It’s got a lovely deep toasted rice flavor, alongside a surprising bit of natural sweetness. My partner says it reminds him of a rice krispie square, and I can see it! But like, a very elevated, deeply caramelly rice krispie square… with notes of roasted chestnuts.

Really, really tasty.

Cold Brew!

Currently sipping on this and it’s so refreshing! This is the Manoomin that’s used in the DT and Tea Horse collaborative blend – and it’s just excellent on its own. Very toasty with strong cereal-like grain notes. Really reminiscent of something like a soba cha or hojicha infusion but a little lighter and more “golden”. Today’s infusion in particular has a lovely naturally sweet cocoa note as well.

I love Marc & Denise so much; learning from them during the collab process was such a joy and priviledge. The manoomin they carry is just so good, and I think any lover of roasty drinks like Genmaicha should try this!

I’ve got this sitting in my drawer and am so looking forward to trying it!
