“We went to see the film “Moonrise Kingdom” this afternoon, which was wonderful. Then had Japanese curry and veggie gyoza at this weird little restaurant called “On the Bridge”. By the time I got...” Read full tasting note
Emperor grade pu-erh teas were first crafted as tributary teas for the Chinese emperor. Only fine young leaves were thought worthy for these imperial gifts.
Originally from the Menghai area of Yunnan Province, our 1996 Emperor has distinct golden buds interspersed amongst the leaves. The leaves themselves are also quite fine – a stark contrast to many emperor grade pu-erhs on the market that are intentionally cut smaller.
We acquired this tea in 2001 – a decade ago. In that time, the tea has taken on a richness and complexity all its own, and amongst our selection of loose leaf pu-erhs, this is the richest and deepest – with notes of plum, malt, earth and camphor in a thick, smooth liquor.
