This rare green tea comes from our good friend and 5th-generation tea farmer in Uji, Japan. This gyokuro is from just a portion of 13 hectares that Hattori-san grows out of 80 in the entire small town. Unlike some other large scale farms in the surrounding region, Hattori-san personally oversees and tends to his small fields on a daily basis. At Inori, we have developed a relationship with Hattori-san over the last 5 years and are honored to be the only company to bring his tea out of Japan for sale. Only a very small portion of his 300 kilogram total harvest is fit to be this top-quality gyokuro that we have in a very limited quantity to offer. It truly is some of the best, most authentic, Japanese gyokuro tea in the world. Notes of umami and nori transition to a matcha-like sweetness that lingers long on the tail end of the palate.
