“I like Earl Grey, but I definitely prefer it with a black base. This one just tasted strange to me…a lot of sharp bergamot flavor along with a slightly bitter, grassy green tea base and just a hint...” Read full tasting note

Description

All natural Bergamot all blended with slightly smoky green gunpowder tea from Ceylon.

Interestingly unlike traditional Earl Grey black tea which is named after the 2nd Earl of Grey, Earl Green is named after the 4th Earl of Grey. While serving as Canada’s Governor General, Sir Albert Henry George, 4th Earl of Grey, was visiting Newfoundland which was then still part of England. A great tea party was planned to welcome him but unfortunately just a couple of days before his arrival the storage shed holding the Earl Grey black tea for the party was destroyed by lighting along with all it stored. Luckily young and resourceful Angus Mcafee was there to save the day, he knew of some Bergamot and Green Gunpowder tea that his grandfather had just shipped in and he spent the next two days blending them together to create Earl Grey Green. On his arrival the 4th Earl of Grey was delighted with the creation and recommended Angus for a knighthood. So remember to give a toast to young Angus next time you enjoy a cup of Earl Green!
