Qi Men Hong Cha is a Chinese red tea (black tea) from Qimen in southern Anhui province. Only since 1875 it is produced there from a dismissed Fujian state official named Yu Guan Cheng came back to his homeland Qimen where he tought the process of making black tea to the local tea farmers, who had only been familiar with green tea. The tea was a massive hit, especially exported to England. It won several prizes, such as the golden prize of World Expo in Panama in 1915. An adequately long withering, complete rolling and the right (full) oxidation of the gentle tea leaves are quality signs of Qi Men Hong Cha. Generally it has a strong taste with fruity notes.
