Panettone

This tea is just pure good memories i wish i could have more, also it was my first tea ever from B&B, its so creamy and smells amazing i don’t have enough word to explain my emotions for this tea, but it was an unforgettable hit

I was disappointed with this one. It just didn’t have any real Panettone flavour to me, though it was pleasant enough as a mild, sweetish fruity tea.

Bird & Blend Advent Calendar 2021: Day 11!

Ooh, I like this one! It’s buttery, fruity, tart, and just a little bit sweet. I don’t really notice the sencha until the very end of a sip, which seems fine—I’m not sure a more aggressive green tea base would really work.

Thanks to amandastory516 for sharing this tea! I don’t usually try green teas warm, but this one was quite pleasant that way. Soft green tea with a very mild strawberry flavor. I like the green tea used in this blend and think it all combines in quite an enjoyable way. I had the last sips when it had cooled, and I enjoyed it that way as well.

I was NOT prepared for this! When I opened Day 21 of the Bird and Blend advent calendar and read the name I think I probably rolled my eyes at least a little. “Sure – a green tea that tasted like Panettone,” I thought. “That sounds great, but highly unlikely.” Then I smelled it and – instantly, I was transported.

My family is one who typically buy a panettone every Christmas. It sits in its little box right up until Christmas morning, hidden away so as not to tempt anyone, and then sliced up and divvied out, inevitably for everyone to probably at least once find themselves chewing on a sneaky slip of paper casing. And here was this green tea, smelling just like it – buttery, fluffy, cakey, even zesty, it was all there. No way, I thought, could it hold onto all that into a brew.

I’m not sure why I seem to have so little faith in flavoured green teas. Maybe I’ve never given them enough of a chance, or maybe I just haven’t encountered enough of them. But this Panettone tea absolutely held onto all those notes of flavour as it steeped.

Every time I sipped, I was again transported back to my childhood home, surrounded by family, so clearly I could honestly imagine someone slipped something into the flavour profile of this tea to mimic that rogue piece of paper casing – I could taste that too! And every time it happened, I had to take a second and say to myself, “That’s crazy they did that so well.”

As with its edible namesake, sometimes this tea seemed just on the verge of too buttery, as some others have noted, but for me it didn’t really detract but rather it added to the illusion. (Also, I’ve had David’s Tea’s Butterscotch Chai, which I’m pretty sure is just liquified buttered toast with sugar, so if you ever want to overdose on butter flavour, well, that’s my cautious recommendation. Or avoid it – your call.)

This was one of those lovely experiences where I tried to make the cup last, while struggling to make sure I didn’t let it get cold, and hating it would be over soon… But also fighting not to just chug it down. Again, as I said, I’ve not had a lot of faith in green teas – Bird and Blend have been surprising me in the loveliest ways in that regard, and I found myself very surprised to love this as much as I did.

If you’re not a fan of Panettone, it’s likely you’d give this a miss anyway. If, like me, however, you are, it’s worth it just to experience the craziness of how well they did on this blend. I could definitely come back to this again most happily, especially when I’m feeling like cozying into some nostalgia, or, you know, if I happen to have a craving for some paper cake casing. Either/or.

Clearly I’m in the minority, but I hate this one…

It’s buttery to the point of being sickening and then there’s a citrusy tartness that, combined with the butter, makes it taste like it’s gone off . And then there’s the very grassy and seaweed-umami sencha base, which really doesn’t meld well with the buttery tart weirdness. It’s like buttery lime seaweed…

Blech. Into the swap pile it goes!

Adventaggedon Day 21 – Tea 5/6

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this tea as I’ve never had the food that it’s named after – though, after a long and interesting conversation in our advent group on IG I decided to buy one while grocery shopping today. I’ll report in the future on my opinion, I suppose…

The tea was nice enough though – sweet and orange forward but with a buttery and nutty side as well. Talking with a friend, she remarked that she thought it was too sweet but I thought the balance was perfect – maybe at least in part by the fact that it helped to cover up some of the green tea base tea flavour. I think it also just added to the idea that I was drinking some type of pastry, though.

Not a favourite from the advent, but definitely one of the nicer ones – especially of the green teas that we’ve come across.

Bird & Blend Advent Day 21 (21-December 2020)

This one smelled buttery (with the finest hint of grapefruit) in the sachet. The scent transformed to full buttery-ness when steeped. Now that it’s cool, there’s a buttery taste mixed with a hint of lime. Almost like the old school DT Lime Gelato.

Because of this tea I bought real panettone, accidentaly with chocolate instead of candied fruits. But I wanted to compare.

The tea was pretty nice, but I don’t really think that green tea base is a good idea. I get candied fruits for sure, orange peel and a bit of real panettone feel.

The hibiscus I don’t mind; but I think same as amandastory516, it’s just extra and don’t add much, only some tartness.

In conclusion, not much of real panettone, but certainly a good attempt and pretty much tasty fruity tea.

The flavor of this tea is still not measuring up to the smell. It tastes a bit buttery, with some candied orange, but the smell is much more rich and caramelized.
