“For the sipdown prompt, “a yerba mate.” It’s been a long time since the weather wasn’t so abhorrent that I had no interest in making a hot cup of tea in the morning, so I took advantage today. Both...” Read full tasting note

Description

Tea of the Week for April 20, 2020!

Our Third tea from our “Celebration of Spring” Collection!

I’ve made a couple of Yerba Mate blends so far & I think this one may be my best Mate effort yet!

As with my previous blends, I combined our green Yerba Mate with our roasted Yerba Mate – but with this particular blend, I went heavier on the green Mate than the roasted – I wanted the fresh, green notes to be the stronger flavor in this composition. Those fresh notes play well to the bright notes of lime. The marshmallow not only softens some of the tartier notes of the lime, but it also marries well with the roasted mate – to give it a kind of roasty-toasty flavor. Kind of like a roasted lime marshmallow – only tea! Delicious!

This blend is not only delicious, it’s also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & super energized thanks to the Yerba Mate! It makes a refreshing, invigorating drink! Your best friend for those way-too-early mornings!

Taster size is approximately 15g

organic ingredients: green yerba mate, roasted yerba mate, limes, marshmallow root & natural flavors

Occasionally – ok, a little more often than “occasionally” – I’ll enter the tea studio with an idea in mind for a tea blend that I’m not too sure about. I’m hopeful, of course, but still – just a little uncertain. Or maybe a little more than “just a little.” But still, I take that leap of faith I have in myself as a tea blender & I hope for the best.

Occasionally, despite my best efforts, I’m a little disappointed by what came of these tea adventures. OK – I’m a little more than just “a little disappointed.” BUT, more often than not, I’m quite thrilled with what these “leap of faith” tea studio sessions produce.

Like now.

This blend – I wasn’t too sure. I can’t say that I recall having a marshmallow flavored Yerba Mate. Or if I have, it’s a little less than memorable as I can’t recall it. I’m pretty sure I’ve had at least one or two citrus flavored Yerba Mate & so I had no doubt that the lime would work, but I wasn’t sure about the marshmallow.

But this tastes great! The lime is not an overwhelming flavor – the marshmallow note is the star here – with just enough lime to keep it bright & offer a tangy contrast to the sweet, creamy marshmallow flavor. The mate melds so well with the flavors here – it’s really – spectacular! LOVE at first sip!

to brew: give the blend a good shake to make sure the ingredients are well incorporated. use 4g of leaf to 12 ounces of very hot water (I heated the water to 175° F) & steep for 5 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy!
